Stand Up Paddling (SUP)

STAND-UP-PADDLING (SUP) IS COMING TO OTTER BAR LODGE THIS 2011 SEASON!
August 7-13; 14-20; 21-27.

World renowned, Otter Bar Lodge Whitewater Kayak School, is excited to be offering week long SUP (Stand Up Paddling) instructional courses on the river starting in August of 2011. These courses are for beginner river paddlers and are aimed at people with some SUP experience in flat water and wish to advance their skills rapidly.

Initially, advanced flat water techniques such as: efficient forward paddling; bracing; sweep strokes; cross bow and cross stern strokes will be covered on the warm, spring fed ponds surrounding the lodge. SUP River paddling requires a solid knowledge of hydrology, proper edging, ferrying and the ability to deal with current and eddy line features.

Otter Bar is located on the banks of the California Salmon (we have 1/2 mile of river frontage) but our class room will be the warm, deep, class 2/3 waters of the Klamath River, located 15 miles downstream of the lodge. Courses will be taught by world class experts including Taylor Robertson, Dan Gavere and other white water experts who are experts in this new field of River SUP.

We will tailor to the needs to each individual. Daily morning "chalk talks" will be held covering all aspects of river safety, paddling technique and other relevant topics related to this new and exciting sport. Stand Up Paddling on rivers is truly amazing and entertaining. This sport is a full body workout. All the skills acquired in the course of a week cross over handily to ocean paddling. This is the ultimate in SUP paddling and combined with Otter bar's spectacular, remote location, your learning experience and vacation will be of the highest quality!
