Otter Bar offers two one-week kayak courses designed to improve your playboating and advanced river running skills. We will get you going with the latest moves and techniques. Offered as a special emphasis option during our Advanced/Intermediate classes, this course is a fast track intended to maximize the fun factor. Even better, these classes receive a special early season discount of 15%!
The Salmon River is a playground for kayakers, a clear stream full of surf waves, holes, ledges, and eddy lines that offer unlimited play potential. Pure class fun! Due to the remote location, there is very little river traffic, often times leaving us with the entire river to ourselves.
The skills taught depend upon the needs and desires of the students and include: balance and control in holes; flat spinning; cartwheeling; stern squirts; bow stalls; blunts; ‘pan-ams’, and more. We will help you maximize the potential of the new generation of planning hull kayaks.
We ask that you bring your boat of choice, although ‘loaners’ are sometimes possible. It is difficult to stock all the latest play boat models, so please inquire.
At our Play Boating class you'll get the skills you need to make your freestyle paddling easier, more dynamic, and more fun than ever before.
Most of our guides have a range of play boating skills. So even you can’t make it to the first two weeks of the season, we can help you with your play boating skills in all the other weeks as well.
